Belarus to hold presidential election no later than July 20, 2025 - CEC head

MINSK. Nov 24 (Interfax) - Belarusian Central Elections Commission (CEC) Chairman Igor Karpenko has announced the timing of the next presidential election.

"The next election for the president of the Republic of Belarus is due to be held no later than July 20, 2025," the Belarusian state-run news agency BelTA quoted Karpenko as saying on Friday.

Given the constitutional amendments approved in a national referendum on February 27, 2022, the Belarusian political system is undergoing profound modernization, Karpenko said. The final stage of this work should be the formation of a corps of deputies on Unified Voting Day, as well as the elections of delegates to the all-Belarusian People's Assembly, and the presidential election, he said.

Karpenko said that 1,394 district and territorial elections commissions will be formed for the campaign.

On November 20, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko signed orders on the elections to the House of Representatives of the Eighth National Assembly, the elections for the 29th Local Councils of Deputies on Unified Voting Day, February 25, 2024, and the elections for the Council of the Republic of the Eighth National Assembly on April 4, 2024.
