GDP per capita in Kyrgyzstan to grow 19% in 2023 - Prime Minister

BISHKEK. Nov 23 (Interfax) - GDP per capita in dollar equivalent in Kyrgyzstan in 2023 will be $1,900 versus $1,600 last year, Prime Minister Akylbek Japarov said during a meeting of the Kyrgyz parliament on Thursday.

This represents an increase of 18.8%.

"Over the past three years, the increase [in GDP per capita] was $669, while over the ten-year period from 2010 to 2020 the increase was $311. These achievements portend even greater growth in the future, which will cover all areas of public life and significantly increase the real standard of living for the population," Japarov said.

In addition, the prime minister said that the main achievement of the team assembled by Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, who came to power at the beginning of 2021, was the dismantling of the system of political corruption.

"One of the striking examples of this is the return of the Kumtor deposit to the people of Kyrgyzstan, as well as such pearls of national heritage as Megakom worth $300 million, Bitel worth $75 million, Manas Bank worth $18 million, and Tash-Komur worth $60 million. "We won 11 international arbitration cases. The latest episode in the fight against political corruption was the fight against organized crime groups," Japarov added.

Kyrgyzstan's GDP increased 7% in 2022. The International Monetary Fund expects the Kyrgyz economy to grow 3.4% in 2023, while the World Bank predicts growth of 3.5%.
