Ukraine sows winter crops on almost 5.8 mln hectares as of Nov 21

MOSCOW. Nov 22 (Interfax) - Ukraine sown winter crops on almost 5.8 million hectares as of November 21, which is 90,700 hectares more than a week before and 0.41 million hectares more (7.6%) than as of the same date last year, Ukrainian media said, citing the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry.

The ministry's update published on Telegram said that the sowing of winter crops had been finalized in ten regions, while the sowing of wheat, millet and rye continued.

On the whole, winter crops have been sown on over 4.605 million hectares (4.502 million hectares a week earlier), including wheat on 4.022 million hectares (3.968 million hectares), barley on 506,000 hectares (469,000 hectares), rye on 77,000 hectares (77,000), and winter rapeseed on 1.159 million hectares (1.151 million hectares).

A poll conducted by the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry indicates that an overwhelming majority of agrarians are not planning a significant change in the area sown with winter crops, compared to last year.
