'Dry port' for grain exports to Europe to be built in Zakarpattia

MOSCOW. Nov 17 (Interfax) - A "dry port' intended to facilitate grain exports to Europe will be built in the village of Goronda in the Mukachevo district of the Zakarpattia region, Ukrainian media outlets said, citing a statement circulated by the Zakarpattia regional military administration on social media.

"A multimodal logistics hub for grain exports to European Union countries will be built in the Zakarpattia region. We are working together with Italian investors to make the Horonda Platform project in the Goronda village of the Mukachevo district a reality," Zakarpattia regional military administration head Viktor Mikita said.

The project will enable transshipment of agricultural products from wide- to narrow-gauge railways and will see the construction of new storage facilities and storage containers for grain, sunflower oil, etc., Mikita said. The project is expected to help create more than 200 new jobs in the Zakarpattia region.

Representatives of the Italian companies involved in the project, including FS Holding, Mercitalia Rail, and Mercitalia Terminal, reiterated their interest in enhancing communication with Ukraine, including Zakarpattia, in socioeconomic, legal and other issues.
