Kazakhstan boosted grain export to China by rail 3.5-fold in 10M to 1.5 mln tonnes

ASTANA. Nov 16 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan boosted grain transportation to China by rail 3.5-fold year-on-year in January-October 2023, national railway operator Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) said in a press release.

"Grain transshipment at the Dostyk and Altynkol border checkpoints totaled about 1.5 million tonnes in 10M," the press release says.

KTZ transported 426,000 tonnes of grain in the same period of last year.

Kazakh and Chinese railway administrations in September 2023 reached an agreement on the volumes of freight cargo for 2023 and 2024 at the 32nd meeting of the border railways commissions of Kazakhstan and China. According to the agreement, Chinese authorities will permit doubling the amount of grain loaded onto grain carriers, covered wagons, and containers at the Alashankou crossing station starting from January 2024.
