Armenian FM affirms Armenian people's European aspirations

YEREVAN. Nov 16 (Interfax) - Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has affirmed the Armenian people's European aspirations and hailed the European Commission's decision to start talks on Moldova and Ukraine's EU membership.

"My country stays committed to democracy and democratic values. I hail the European Commission's decision to offer membership negotiations to Moldova and Ukraine and to give the candidate status to Georgia. This decision is hailed by both the Armenian government and the Armenian people who also have European aspirations," Mirzoyan said at the 15th annual session of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum in Brussels on Wednesday.

Over the past few years, Armenia and the EU "have accumulated impressive experience of joint work aimed at their rapprochement," he said.

"The European Union is also an important partner of Armenia, which contributes to our effort towards peace and stability in the South Caucasus," Mirzoyan said.

Armenia wishes to join the Black Sea electric cable project, he said.

"Hopefully, the European Union supports this aspiration by using its instruments," Mirzoyan said.
