Inflation in Russia at 0.23% in period of Nov 8-13, annual inflation quickens to nearly 7.3%

MOSCOW. Nov 15 (Interfax) - Inflation in Russia from November 8 to 13 (the measurement timeframe was 6 days due to the holiday) slowed to 0.23% from 0.42% in the period October 30 to November 7 (the measurement timeframe was 8 days due to holidays) after 0.14% from October 24 to 30, 0.24% from October 17 to 23, 0.15% from October 10 to 16, 0.24% from October 3 to 9, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) said in a report.

Since the beginning of the month and as of October 13 inflation was 0.60%, since the beginning of the year - 6.10%.

As noted, a surge in prices for domestic cars played a significant role in the acceleration of inflation in the first week of November, with said vehicles rising in price by 5.49% from October 30 to November 7, with price growth slowing to 0.41% from November 8 to 13.

It follows from data for the first 13 days of November this year and last that annual inflation in Russia quickened to 7.27% as of November 13, from 7.07% as of November 7 and 6.69% as of the end of October, based on weekly prices - the Central Bank advocates this methodology judging by the annual inflation estimates in the press releases following its rate decisions. Annual inflation quickened to 7.16% (from 6.99% as of November 7), based on average daily data for the whole of November 2022 - the Economic Development Ministry started calculating annual inflation this way in February this year.

The increase in prices for fruit and vegetable products from November 8 to 13 amounted to 2.6% (from October 30 to November 7 - also 2.6%), including cucumbers - 9.1%, tomatoes - 5.7%, cabbage - 1.1%, bananas - 1.0%, onions - 0.7%, apples - 0.4%. At the same time, prices for potatoes decreased by 0.6%, for carrots - by 0.5%.

In the period from November 8 to 13, prices also increased significantly for chicken eggs - by 3.4%, sausages, wieners and butter - by 0.5%.

Prices were down in the week were down 0.5% for granulated sugar and canned meat for baby food.

Prices for motor gasoline decreased by 0.1% while diesel fuel prices were unchanged.

Economy class airfare rose in price by 3.8% during the week (a week earlier it decreased by 4.3%).
