Ukraine exports 76,000 tonnes of flour to EU in 2022 - survey

MOSCOW. Nov 14 (Interfax) - Ukraine became the second largest flour supplier to the European Union in 2022, supplying 76,000 tonnes to its member states, as follows from a survey of the flour market conducted by the Reform Support Team of the Ukrainian Economy Ministry (RST Mineconomy) jointly with the Office for Entrepreneurship and Export Development, as Ukrainian media reported.

At the same time, in 2022, the flour exports were 4.8 times less than in 2019, when the country supplied 365,000 tonnes to the EU, it said.

In 2022, exporters had to change the geography of sales and reorient from the markets in the Middle East and Africa to the markets of neighboring European countries. As a result, the main importing countries of Ukrainian flour became Poland, Romania, Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia and Moldova. The latter became the main purchaser of Ukrainian flour with a total volume of 21,000 tonnes, the survey said.

"Today, Ukraine is among the leaders in the production and export of grains, and this is a solid basis for moving towards leadership both in the primary processing and export of flour, and subsequently in enhancing processing and expanding exports of bakery products," senior project manager of the Reform Support Team of the Economy Ministry Sergei Maidanevich said.
