E.DSO European association approves Ukrainian DTEK's grid development concept

MOSCOW. Nov 9 (Interfax) - The Board of Directors of the European Distribution System Operators (E.DSO) has officially approved a grid development concept drawn up by Ukraine's DTEK Grids jointly with European colleagues and meant to shape the future of Ukrainian electricity distribution grids.

"E.DSO members collectively acknowledge that the foundations and principles of the grid development concept drafted by DTEK Grids comply with European Union practices of the sector. These principles resonate with the objective of the Clean Energy for All Europeans Package, which is tailored to promote and facilitate the energy transition of Ukraine," E.DSO members said in a joint statement, which was cited by Ukrainian media using the Ukrainian energy holding's press release.

The grid development concept involves a gradual grid infrastructure upgrade in Kiev and the Kiev, Odessa and Dnepropetrovsk regions, using cutting-edge technologies inspired by the nest practices of European distribution system operators. The program will continue for ten years, starting with a three-year pilot project in the Bucha district.

As a result of the implementation of the concept, the average period of power cuts will be reduced from 1,500 minutes to 100 minutes a year (SAIDI), technological losses will decrease by almost three times from 14% to 5%, and all clients will receive smart meters, which will help save electricity and minimize costs.

The concept relies on the expertise of leading energy companies that are members of the E.DSO association.

DTEK Grids specializes in distributing electricity and operating the grids in Kiev, the Kev, Dnepropetrovsk and Odessa regions and the Kiev-controlled part of the Donetsk region. DTEK Grids' distribution system operators serve 5.4 million households and 150,000 enterprises.
