Total of 439 communities cut off from electricity, 23 due to bad weather in Ukraine - Energy Ministry

MOSCOW. Nov 2 (Interfax) - As of November 2, 23 communities in the Sumy, Poltava and Dnepropetrovsk regions remain without electricity in Ukraine due to inclement weather.

"Most of them are in the Sumy region, where nine communities are cut off from power supply," Ukrainian media reported citing the Ukrainian Energy Ministry on Thursday.

Ten communities in the Chernigov region are blacked out, four of which are partially blacked out, 57 communities are cut off from electricity in the Sumy region, 11 of which partially, and over 18,000 consumers in the Kharkov region, the ministry said. Some consumers in the Dnepropetrovsk region and in the Kiev-controlled areas of the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions also remain without power supply.

In total, over 14,000 consumers were reconnected to power supply over the past 24 hours.

"Consumers in the Zhitomir, Kiev, and Kirovograd regions were temporarily blacked out due to technological failures over the past 24 hours. All are now energized. Over 1,000 subscribers in the Dnepropetrovsk region and 1,200 in the Odessa region also remain de-energized due to technological failures," the Energy Ministry said.

Commercial imports of electricity from Moldova and Poland totaled 2,456 MWh over the past 24 hours, while exports to Moldova amounted to 1,178 MWh, the ministry said.

Meanwhile, the Ukrenergo national energy company said that on Thursday, electricity imports are being made in the evening hours during the peak consumption period from Moldova totaling 29 MWh, with a maximum capacity of up to 5 MW in some hours.

Electricity is exported to Moldova during the period of active operation of the power plants using renewable energy in the daytime hours and during the period of daily lowest consumption at night with a total volume of 702 MWh, with a maximum capacity of up to 101 MW in some hours.

In total, 439 communities in Ukraine remain de-energized for various reasons, the media quoted Ukrenergo as saying.
