Ukraine launches Future Perfect project to popularize English language - ministry

MOSCOW. Nov 2 (Interfax) - Ukraine launches the Future Perfect national project to popularize the English language, Ukrainian media said, citing the press service for the Culture and Information Policy Ministry.

"The Future Perfect project is bound to officially make English the language of international communication in Ukraine, to unlock new opportunities of professional and personal development for all Ukrainians, and to help them compete in the global market and earn high salaries," the statement said.

The Digital Transformation Ministry, the Education and Science Ministry, and the Culture and Information Policy Ministry will be coordinating the language program.

According to the statement, the Future Perfect language program will broaden the use of the English language in public life and will encourage language studies by each of the following groups: pedagogues, civil servants, entrepreneurs, citizens and local government members. The Future Perfect program provides products and services that will help learn English in convenient and accessible formats.

"These are Empower and Promova, above all. Promova, a language learning platform with a personalized approach, offers Ukrainians three years of Premium access to all language courses. Meanwhile, the Enpower online platform for learning English, provided by the University of Cambridge, is available to Ukrainian teachers and students," the statement said.

The statement said that the use of English as the language of international communication in Ukraine should be regulated at the state level.

"This is why, the Culture and Information Policy Ministry, in collaboration with other agencies, has drafted a respective bill to broaden the scope of use of the English language and to create conditions for learning it. [...] The bill primarily aimed to develop motivation for civil servants to study English. Legislation does not require immediate learning of the language, as we realize that will take time. So, the bill sets deadlines for meeting every requirement. The bill practically starts with a statement that it does not limit the scope of use of the Ukrainian language," acting Culture and Information Policy Minister Rostislav Karandeyev said.
