Russia's Agriculture Ministry proposes implementing duty-free quota to import certain types of chicken meat up to 160,000 tonnes in 2024

MOSCOW. Nov 1 (Interfax) - Russia's Agriculture Ministry proposes implementing a duty-free quota on importing certain types of chicken meat up to 160,000 tonnes in 2024 in addition to introducing a ban on exporting certain types of poultry meat and eggs.

The corresponding proposal is contained in the ministry's letter to the Economic Development Ministry and the Industry and Trade Ministry, which Interfax has reviewed.

"In order to meet the needs of the domestic market for domestic chicken meat and edible chicken eggs in conditions of increased demand for these goods, the Russian Agriculture Ministry requests that the matter be submitted for consideration to the subcommittee on customs, tariff and non-tariff regulation, protective measures in foreign trade of the government commission on economic development and integration matters: On establishing a temporary ban on the export of these goods outside the territory of the Russian Federation, as well as on implementing a tariff concession in 2024 in the form of exemption from import customs duties in relation to certain types of domestic chicken meat imported into the territory of the Russian Federation in the amount up to 160,000 tonnes," according to the letter.

The ban on exporting certain types of poultry meat and eggs is proposed to be implemented from December 1, 2023, to May 31, 2024.
