Parallel imports have served their purpose, their further use must be justified - Patrushev

TOMSK. Oct 31 (Interfax) - Russian companies continue to focus on purchasing ready-made foreign products, but the further use of parallel imports must be justified, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev said.

"The lack of justification for the continued use of the parallel import mechanism, which has largely fulfilled its role in stabilizing the situation on the goods market, does not contribute to increasing innovative activity in the real sector of the economy," Patrushev said at a meeting on topical issues of ensuring national security in Siberia in Tomsk.

"Investment and innovation activity by companies, especially in the markets of knowledge-intensive and technological products, has increased slightly. An economically justified balance between domestic consumption and the export and import of industrial products, primarily, is critically necessary for achieving technological sovereignty (including from a regional standpoint)," Patrushev said.

"Domestic companies often continue to focus on purchasing ready-made foreign products and do not use the scientific and technical potential available in the country to follow through on promising developments," he said.
