Ukraine has sown nearly 5.4 mln hectares of winter crops for 2024 harvest

MOSCOW. Oct 31 (Interfax) - Ukrainian farmers continue sowing winter grain crops, and around 5.4 million hectares in total have already been sown together with oilseeds compared to 4.985 million hectares a week earlier, Ukrainian media reported, citing the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

As of the end of October, 4.211 million hectares of winter grains have already been sown versus 3.849 million hectares a week earlier, of which 3.733 million hectares, against 3.456 million hectares, are occupied by wheat, 403,000 hectares (322,000 hectares) by barley, and 76,000 ha by rye (71,000 ha).

Over the past week, the increase in winter grain sowing totaled 362,000 hectares, the figure was 506,000 hectares a week earlier.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy notes that farmers from all regions have completed sowing winter rapeseed, which has been sown on 1.142 million hectares.

As reported, the vast majority of Ukrainian farmers do not plan to change significantly the area under winter crops this year compared to last season.
