Belarus has completed commissioning of power unit No.2 of Belarusian NPP, routine maintenance is underway - Lukashenko

MINSK. Oct 31 (Interfax) - The construction of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant has been completed, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said.

"We have completed construction and commissioning work [at the second power unit of the BelNPP]. The station is operating at full capacity; planned preventive and other measures are being conducted as required by regulations. The safety of our station is the number one issue. There is nothing more to repeat here or say," Lukashenko said as he accepted the report on the completion of the construction of the BelNPP, BelTA reported.

"Even some nuances need to be brought to mind, and the Belarusian side has always put forward strict demands in this regard. Rosatom must understand this very well. We are a Chernobyl republic. Even the slightest leniency during the construction of nuclear power plants is not permissible for us. People would never forgive us for that. That's why there are such strict demands on our part regarding various nuances," he said.

On October 24, the Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) of Belarus issued a license for the industrial operation of the second power unit of the Belarusian NPP.
