Five ArcelorMittal Temirtau coal mines resume operations after fire at Kostenko mine - minister

ASTANA. Oct 31 (Interfax) - Five coal mines of ArcelorMittal Temirtau's division in Karaganda region that were shut down after a fire at the steelmaker's Kostenko mine have resumed operations.

"In total, since 2:00 p.m. on October 30 mining processes have resumed at five mines in Karaganda region - Abaiskaya, Saranskaya, Shakhtinskaya, Kuzembayev and Lenin," Kazakh Emergency Situations Minister Syrym Sharipkhanov said at a government meeting in Astana on Tuesday.

Only tunneling work is being done at the Tentekskaya mine, while the Kazakhstan mine is doing sustaining work and monitoring air quality and gas levels, he said.
