Uralchimmash expecting to resume production of reservoirs for storage of cryogases after 60 years

YEKATERINBURG. Oct 30 (Interfax) - JSC Uralchimmash (Sverdlovsk Region, managed by UZHM Management Company) plans to resume production of equipment using low-temperature steel for storage of LNG, liquid hydrogen and other products, the company's press service told Interfax.

"The production of such equipment ceased after the relevant facilities were completed at Baikonur and Plesetsk Cosmodromes. At present, there is interest from a number of Russian companies in using similar equipment in hydrogen and LNG production projects. In this regard, there are plans to resume production of equipment provided the relevant orders are placed," a spokesperson for the company said.

In particular this concerns the production of double-walled spherical cryogenic tanks, he said.

Uralchimmash produced these products in Soviet times for storage of rocket fuel components at low temperatures at space launch facilities.

According to Roscosmos, construction of the Baikonur Cosmodrome (Kazakhstan) began in 1955, with the first launch vehicle launched in 1957. The Plesetsk Cosmodrome (Arkhangelsk Oblast) has been under construction since 1957, with the launch of the first spacecraft taking place in 1966.

Uralchimmash manufactures equipment for petrochemical, oil and gas processing industry, nuclear and conventional energy enterprises. In February 2022, the enterprise was taken over by the specially established UZHM Management Company.
