Maritime cargo flights between Kamchatka, China to open in 2024, direct flights planned - regional governor

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATKA. Oct 27 (Interfax) - Regular maritime-cargo flights between the Kamchatka Territory and China are planned for launch in 2024, regional governor Vladimir Solodov said in a statement.

"A monthly cargo flight will begin operating already next year from Qingdao to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky," Solodov said in a video posted on social media.

Solodov said that there are also plans to establish direct flights between Kamchatka and China. "We are waiting for the air terminal complex [at the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky airport] to be completed, thus allowing for launching these flights," he said.

The governor said that the Kamchatka Territory delegation's trip to China "was truly record-breaking in its intensity, as it was possible to agree on a number of important areas for collaboration in three days."

"China is actively interested in our ship-repairing industry, and is considering the matter of investments in the area. We are waiting for them in Kamchatka soon, when we should talk in detail. The Kamchatka authorities are in talks to attract large Chinese construction companies to the region. We have agreed with the leadership of the Chinese fishing industry to hold Russia-China business events in the area in Kamchatka," Solodov said.
