Kazakhstan extends export ban on scrap metals another six months

ALMATY. Oct 26 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan has extended the ban on the export of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals for six months starting from November 7 of this year.

The Order on the Transportation of Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Scrap Metals was published in the Paragraph online legal database.

The ban applies to the export by any means of transportation of waste and scrap copper, aluminum, lead, as well as used lead batteries, waste and battery scrap.

The document also bans the export by motor vehicles and by sea of ferrous metals waste and scrap, alloy and corrosion-resistant steel containing 8% of nickel and higher, as well as used pipes, rails, railway components and rolling stock.

In May 2023, Kazakhstan's Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development imposed a six-month ban on the export of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals out of the republic.
