Russia will help Mongolia prevent foot-and-mouth disease and fight its spread - Rosselkhoznadzor

MOSCOW. Oct 24 (Interfax) - Rosselkhoznadzor will help Mongolian specialists in the prevention of foot-and-mouth disease and in the fight against the spread of the disease, which is damaging to agriculture. First and foremost, the goal is to work together to create a zone free from foot-and-mouth disease in Mongolia.

An agreement on the joint project was reached during negotiations that took place within the framework of the 25th meeting of the Russian-Mongolian intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation, Rosselkhoznadzor said. The Russian delegation was headed by Deputy Head of Rosselkhoznadzor, Konstantin Savenkov, and the Mongolian delegation was headed by the country's chief veterinarian, Ayushjav Narantuya.

"The parties agreed to work together to create a foot-and-mouth disease-free zone in Mongolia. As a result, Mongolia will be able to obtain the required official OIE (World Organization for Animal Health) status and supply safe meat products," the statement says.

The Mongolian side will soon send information to Rosselkhoznadzor about the epizootic situation in the country, information about the number of livestock, vaccinations and identification of animals.
