Ukraine sows nearly 5 mln ha of winter crops for 2024 harvest

MOSCOW. Oct 24 (Interfax) - Ukrainian farmers are continuing to sow winter grain crops; in total, 4.985 million hectares have already been sown together with oilseeds, compared to 4.5 million hectares a week earlier, Ukrainian media reported, citing a message from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

A number of regions have completed the autumn sowing campaign. All regions have completed sowing winter rapeseed, for which 1,136 hectares are allocated.

Sowing of wheat, millet and rye continues. Farmers have already sown 3.849 million hectares with winter grains (3.343 million hectares a week earlier), of which 3.456 million hectares (3.018 million hectares last week) are occupied by wheat, 322,000 hectares (260,000 last week) by barley, and 71,000 hectares by rye (63,000 hectares last week).

Over the previous week, the increase in winter grain sowing totaled 506,000 hectares.

As reported, the vast majority of Ukrainian farmers do not plan to significantly change the area under winter crops this year compared to last season.
