Lavrov discusses how to boost Russian-Iranian partnership in Tehran

MOSCOW. Oct 24 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov's talks in Tehran focused on steps to enhance the Russian-Iranian partnership with a stress on joint projects in the energy sector and logistics, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

Lavrov was received by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and held talks with Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, the ministry said.

"Key aspects of bilateral agenda were discussed substantively with an emphasis on further building up the entire multifaceted Russian-Iranian partnership in accordance with the agreements reached between Russian President Vladimir Putin and [Iranian President] Ebrahim Raisi," it said.

Special attention was given "to the implementation of joint projects in the energy sector and logistics, including the full-fledged launch of the North-South international transport corridor," the ministry said.

The parties also reiterated the need "for further coordination between the Foreign Ministries of Russia and Iran on regional issues, including the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the situation in Afghanistan and Syria and the Caspian agenda."

Touching upon the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian radical movement Hamas, "the sides stressed the need to ensure a ceasefire as soon as possible and the unacceptability of casualties among the civilian population," the ministry said.
