No weekly change in number of vessels at Port of Izmail, increase at Port of Reni

MOSCOW. Oct 23 (Interfax) -- The number of vessels anchored at the Port of Izmail in the Odessa region decreased by one to 89 in the week to Monday, while another 14 vessels were expected to arrive, Ukrainian media said citing Marine Traffic monitoring data.

Meanwhile, 16 vessels were recorded on Monday at the Odessa region's Port of Reni compared to 12 a week ago. Another two vessels were expected to arrive at the port, according to the data.

As reported previously, Greater Odessa ports partly resumed operations after the Black Sea Grain Initiative's termination. Forty-two vessels with an aggregate deadweight of 1.7 million tonnes have arrived at the ports of Greater Odessa via the temporary corridor set from September 16, and 23 vessels have since left the ports with cargo on board or already reached their ports of destination, Ukrainian media reported with reference to Andrei Klimenko, head of the Monitoring Group from the Institute for Black Sea Strategic Studies.

It is thanks to the operation of the temporary corridor toward Greater Odessa ports that Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) boosted Ukrainian grain exports by a third to 1.075 million tonnes, the media said.

The downward trend is continuing to dominate the freight market at Danube ports, Ukrainian media said citing the Ukrainian Grain Association and Atria Brokers.

Navigation in the region was difficult due to bad weather for a long time, resulting in a long line of 100 vessels in Sulina. The market also dipped due to the ban on loading vessels for exporters using cash in their dealings with suppliers. This led to a situation where some of chartered vessels were discarded amid falling demand, the media said.
