Russian govt approves Siberian socio-economic development strategy implementation plan

NOVOSIBIRSK. Oct 23 (Interfax) - Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has signed a government order approving an implementation plan of the Siberian Federal District's socio-economic development strategy in the period until 2035, a statement on the government's website said.

The document comprises more than 150 events grouped into several areas.

In particular, it is planned to launch of university campuses in Tomsk and Novosibirsk to develop science and education and design campus projects in Irkutsk, Gorno-Altaisk and Kemerovo. The Siberian Circular Photon Source synchrotron, a mega-science project, is expected to be launched in the town of Koltsovo, Novosibirsk region.

The strategy envisages modernizing airports in Bratsk, Gorno-Altaisk, Kemerovo, Krasnoyarsk, Novokuznetsk, and Novosibirsk.

The document is also aimed at creating new timber-processing plants, building and upgrading aluminum smelters and mining plants, developing new deposits of oil, gas, coal, non-ferrous and rare-earth metals, building new and developing existing tourist facilities, as well as meat and dairy plants and greenhouses.
