Romania to allow Ukrainian grain transit to grow twofold by yearend

MOSCOW. Oct 23 (Interfax) -Romania will redouble its transit capacity for Ukrainian grain transit by the end of 2023, Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said following his visit to Ukraine, Ukrainian media said citing Romania's ACTMedia News Agency.

"Together with the Ukrainian government, we managed to find a jointly agreed formula by which to both facilitate grain transit and protect the Romanian market and the interests of Romanian farmers. Furthermore, at the joint meeting of our governments on October 18, we reiterated our commitment to redoubling the transit capacity from 2 mln tonnes per month to 4 mln tonnes by the end of the year. And we will do so, continuing to invest in the infrastructure of the port of Constanta, the Danube ports, as well as in roads and the railroad," Ciolacu said.

However, he once again assured that Ukrainian grain would be exported to Romania with due consideration of the interests of Romanian farmers.

Almost 30,000,000 tonnes of Ukrainian grain have transited through Romania since the beginning of the Ukraine crisis, ACTMedia News Agency said.
