Work starts to fulfill agreements reached at Russia-N. Korea summit - Lavrov

PYONGYANG/MOSCOW. Oct 20 (Interfax) - Measures to implement the agreements reached at the Russian-North Korean summit in the Far East in September have already been launched, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Thursday.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has circulated video footage from the meeting.

"I sincerely thank you for this opportunity to communicate with you. President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin asked me to convey his best wishes to you and confirmation of the readiness to fulfill everything that you agreed upon. This work has already begun," Lavrov said.

In November, Pyongyang is expected to host the 10th meeting of the two countries' intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation, he said. The Russian and North Korean co-chairs of the commission held a special meeting in Moscow in late September to lay the groundwork for the upcoming event.

"As you have said, Foreign Minister of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Comrade Choe Son Hui and I held detailed, in-depth talks on all issues of bilateral interaction as a follow-up to your agreements with Putin and on the regional and international agenda. I will be glad to report our results to you," Lavrov said.

Kim Jong Un, for his part, said that friendship between Russia and North Korea has been developing actively after the September summit.

"The atmosphere is very good, and our people give great attention to relations between our countries. I am very pleased to meet you, comrade minister, in such a situation," the North Korean leader said.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and North Korea, he said.

"It is a very memorable year for our countries, and you held talks with the foreign minister on this subject today. I think that during the talks you discussed a very broad range of issues concerning the two countries' relations, and it is a matter of great significance. You obviously had a very extensive and in-depth exchange of views with the comrade minister today," Kim Jong Un said.
