Gambling business accounts for 40% of acquiring in Ukraine - NBU

MOSCOW. Oct 18 (Interfax) - The gambling business accounts for 40% of acquiring in Ukraine, and turnover in this segment reaches 5 billion hryvni on average per week, National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Deputy Governor Dmitry Oleinik told Ukrainian media.

"This market's actors are quite innovative. It is confirmed by the 'broken P2P transfer scheme, when it is impossible to identify transaction participants in advance," Oleinik said when asked whether accusations that the NBU is not attentive enough to such operations are fair.

Tax revenue from the gambling business has topped 6.5 billion hryvni this year due to the joint work conducted by the NBU, the Security Service of Ukraine and the Economic Security Bureau, he said.

"Last month alone, it exceeded the entire amount for the previous year by 300 million hryvni," he said.

The regulator continues to look into the traffic of operations under the guise of the gambling business, he said.

"And our reaction was and will be appropriate. We report on measures on influence in this regard on the official website: this information is open and available to everyone. There will be the next decisions and measures over time," Oleinik, who coordinates this area of work by the NBU, said.

All materials about offenders involved in such schemes are forwarded to the Economic Security Bureau, the State Tax Service and the State Financial Monitoring Service, he said.
