Ukraine sows winter crops on 4.5 mln ha for harvest in 2024

MOSCOW. Oct 17 (Interfax) - Ukrainian farmers are continuing to sow winter grains and oilseeds, with 4.5 million hectares already sown versus 3.7 million hectares sown a week earlier, Ukrainian media reported, citing the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

Currently, 3.343 million hectares are sown with winter grains (2.583 million hectares a week earlier), including wheat on 3.018 million hectares (2.352 million hectares a week earlier), barley on 260,000 hectares (171,000 a week earlier), and rye, at 63,000 hectares (60,000 a week earlier).

The sowing of winter rapeseed is nearly complete. It covers 1.124 million hectares (1.111 million hectares last week), which is 92.8% of plan.

Over the past week, the increase in winter grain sowing has totaled 760,000 ha.

As reported, the vast majority of farmers do not plan to significantly change the area under winter crops this year compared to last season.
