Ukraine's trade deficit triples in 8 months - State Statistics Service

MOSCOW. Oct 13 (Interfax) - Ukraine's negative trade balance in January-August 2023 has tripled to $16.667 billion from $5.509 billion in the same period last year, Ukrainian media reported citing the national statistics service on Friday.

Goods exports were down by 15.3% to $24.475 billion year on year; imports were up 19.6% to $41.142 billion.

In August 2023, the seasonally adjusted export volume decreased by 0.3% to $2.651 billion from the month before; import increased by 0.4%, to $5.199 billion, the Service said.

The seasonally adjusted trade balance in August 2023 was negative, at $2.548 billion. In the previous month, it was also negative, at $2.517 billion.

Foreign trade coverage ratio in January-August stood at 0.59 (0.84 in the same period in 2022).

Foreign trade transactions were carried out with partners from 226 countries, the State Statistics Service said.
