Moscow court fines Zoom 15 mln rubles for failure to localize personal data of its Russian users

MOSCOW. Oct 12 (Interfax) - A Moscow justice of the peace has ordered an administrative fine of 15 million rubles on the Zoom video service for repeatedly failing to comply with the requirement to localize personal data of its Russian users in Russia, an Interfax correspondent reported from the courthouse.

"Zoom Video Communications Inc. shall be punished by an administrative fine of 15 million rubles," Justice of the Peace Timur Vakhrameyev of court circuit No. 422 of Moscow's Tagansky district said in handing down the judgment.

The court found Zoom in breach of the requirement that it localize personal data of its Russian users in databases kept in Russia.

No Zoom attorneys or representatives were present at the hearing.

A Russian court first fined Zoom one million rubles for failing to localize the personal data of its Russian users in Russia in July 2022.

The same justice of the peace ruled on Thursday that the Face IT Limited (FACEIT) cybersports platform be fined one million rubles. The company has been found in breach of the requirement on localizing the personal data of its Russian users in Russia for the first time.

As reported earlier, a justice of the peace will hear a report against Zoom for violating the so-called grounding law on October 17. If found in breach, the company would face a fine ranging from 1/15th to 1/10th of its aggregate sales revenue per calendar year preceding the year when the administrative offence was uncovered, but no less than six million rubles.
