Russian Deputy FM Bogdanov discusses situation in Gaza with Palestinian minister

MOSCOW. Oct 12 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov and Palestinian Minister for Civil Affairs Hussein al-Sheikh, representing Fatah, have met to discuss the situation in the Gaza Strip.

"During the conversation, the parties had an in-depth discussion on the disastrous situation in and around the Gaza Strip. They underscored the need to urgently cease hostilities, open humanitarian corridors to deliver foodstuffs and medicine to the enclave's population, and resume the supply of water and electricity there," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

Bogdanov and al-Hussein "pointed out that indiscriminate bombings causing multiple civilian casualties are unacceptable," the ministry said.

"They emphasized the need to prevent an exodus from the Gaza Strip, which is supposed to become part of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with its capital in East Jerusalem," the ministry said.
