Roskomnadzor holds 12 foreign companies liable for refusing to localize Russians' data in Russia - court

MOSCOW. Oct 11 (Interfax) - A Moscow magistrate court has registered 12 administrative offense protocols against foreign companies that have refused to localize Russians' data on the territory of the country.

"The magistrate court of District 422 has received protocols against Coinbase Ireland Limited, AIDA International, United Parcel Service Inc, Spotify AB, Airbnb, Inc., Agoda Company Pte. Ltd., Ookla LLC, Google LLC, Molchanovs Pte Ltd, Proxima Beta Pte Limited, Freelancer International Pty Limited, and MyHeritage Ltd. Hearings have been scheduled for October 16 and November 9," the court told Interfax.

Some of the companies are being held liable for refusing to localize Russians' data on the territory of Russia for the first time, they are facing fines of up to six million rubles.

More than half, including Ookla LLC, Google LLC, Spotify AB, Airbnb, and United Parcel Service (UPS), are being held liable for a repeat violation by an operator failing to fulfil, during personal data collection, to ensure recording, systematization, accumulation, and storage of Russian citizens' personal data using databases located on the territory of Russia (Part 9 of Article 13.11 of the Russian Code of Administrative Offenses). They faces fines ranging from six million rubles to 18 million rubles.
