Council of EU to extend temporary protection for Ukrainians - Rada's ombudsman

MOSCOW. Oct 10 (Interfax) - The Council of the European Union has reached a consensus on extending the temporary protection for Ukrainians seeking refuge in EU countries until March 4, 2025, Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Human Rights Commissioner Dmitry Lubinets said.

"The relevant decision has been approved in Brussels. Due to said agreement, after completing its legal verification and translation into all EU languages, the Council of the EU will officially make a decision to extend the temporary protection," Ukrainian media quoted Lubinets as saying on his social account.

The European Commission is of the view that the reasons for the temporary protection remain in place, and therefore, it should be extended as an essential response to the current situation in Ukraine, Lubinets said.
