Azerbaijani FM, Iranian diplomat discuss transport projects

BAKU. Oct 9 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Mehdi Safari discussed the bilateral agenda on Monday, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The pair "exchanged views on the realization of the North-South Transport Corridor and the realization of the communication link between Azerbaijan's East Zangezur Economic Region and Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic," the statement said.

Bayramov and Safari noted the increased dynamic of bilateral trade and economic relations and praised the work of the intergovernmental commission.

"The meeting also involved an exchange of views on the latest developments in the region [...] It was stated that Azerbaijan has appropriate measures in place to reintegrate [Karabakh] Armenian residents in accordance with the Constitution and Azerbaijani laws, and is interested in establishing a lasting peace with Armenia based on respect for its sovereignty and territorial integrity," the statement said.

The diplomats also discussed other regional issues.

Safari is in Baku to attend the 27th meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization Council of Ministers.
