EU attention to Mideast events not to reflect on its assistance to Ukraine - European Commission

BRUSSELS. Oct 9 (Interfax) - Global events, such as the escalation of the Israel-Palestine conflict, cannot influence EU support to Ukraine, European Commission spokesman Eric Mamer said.

"I don't think anything will in any way influence the support that the European Union provides to Ukraine. That is beyond the shadow of a doubt," Mamer said at a briefing in Brussels on Monday.

Mamer cited a speech by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Bordeaux last Saturday. "She reiterates once again that we will stand by the Ukrainian people as long as it takes in their conflict. [...] I think that's completely relevant, to be honest," he said.
