Ukraine's dairy exports down 30% in September 2023

MOSCOW. Oct 6 (Interfax) - Ukraine's dairy exports dropped by 30% in September 2023 month-on-month because Ukrainian producers encountered limited supply of raw milk and raw milk processing decreased amid a growth of consumer demand on the domestic market, Ukrainian media said with reference to the Association of Milk Producers.

Ukraine exported 7,330 tonnes of dairy product for $14.05 million in September, the association said, citing preliminary data from Ukraine's State Statistics Service. The actual volume of exports declined by 30% and proceeds shrank by 43% in September 2023 month-on-month.

Last month, Ukraine exported 2,310 tonnes of fluid milk and cream, 8% less than in August, 1,640 tonnes of condensed milk and cream (-61%), 1,230 tonnes of milk whey (-9%), 527 tonnes of butter (-22%), 768 tonnes of cheese (-22%), and 557 tonnes of ice cream (-109%).

Proceeds from daily exports declined by $1.27 million in September. Thus, Ukraine earned $4.11 million (-58%) from its exports of fluid milk and cream and condensed milk and cream to foreign markets, $668,000 (-6%) from milk whey exports, $2.65 million (-24%) from butter exports, $3.21 million (-24%) from cheese exports, and $1.77 million (-116%) from ice cream exports.

The only profitable export in this category was that of fermented milk products (buttermilk), which grew in monetary terms by 11% to $357,000 even though its amount decreased by 7% to 301 tonnes.
