Physical launch of Bangladesh Rooppur NPP's first unit due in Sept 2024 - Kremlin

MOSCOW. Oct 5 (Interfax) - The physical launch of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant's first reactor unit in Bangladesh is planned for September 2024, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"The physical launch of Rooppur NPP [first reactor unit] is due to start in September 2024. In all, two reactor units will be built," Peskov said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will attend the virtual ceremony of nuclear fuel delivery to the Rooppur NPP's first reactor on Thursday.

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi will attend the virtual ceremony as well, Peskov said.

"The project is being implemented under the international agency's very thorough, crucial supervision," he said.
