MINSK. Oct 5 (Interfax) - The number of vehicles waiting to cross the Belarusian border into neighboring EU member states has grown from over 900 to more than 1,160 over the past day, the Belarusian State Border Committee said on Thursday.

"As of 10 a.m., the busiest road to the EU goes through the Lithuanian Medininkai checkpoint (Kamenny Log). Its personnel cleared only 17% of the standard number of trucks in the past 24 hours, which is three out of 20 possible trucks per hour. The other Lithuanian checkpoints cleared 35% of trucks. Personnel of the Latvian Paternieki checkpoint (Grigorovshchina) cleared 49% of the normal number of trucks," the committee said.

Over 840 trucks were waiting to cross the Belarusian-Lithuanian border in addition to more than 90 waiting to cross the Belarusian-Latvian border at 10 a.m. on Thursday, the committee's website said.

Cars are standing in line on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border, their number tops 230.

"Cars have been standing in line at every Lithuanian checkpoint since 8 p.m. yesterday," it said.
