Winter crops sown on over 2.9 mln hectares in Ukraine - Agrarian Policy Ministry

MOSCOW. Oct 3 (Interfax) - Ukraine has sown winter crops on 2.992 million hectares of farmland, an increase from 2.179 million hectares a week ago, Ukrainian media reported on Tuesday citing the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry.

Winter rapeseed has been sown on 1.087 million hectares (1.038 million hectares a week ago) and grain on 1.906 million hectares (1.141 million hectares), including wheat on 1.743 million hectares (1.024 million hectares), barley on 109,000 hectares (74,000 hectares), and rye on 53,600 hectares (42,000 hectares). Over the past week alone, Ukrainian farmers have sown winter grain crops on 764,700 hectares (556,000 hectares).

As much as 87% of all winter grain has been sown in the Sumy region.

The sowing of winter rapeseed is nearing completion in all regions of Ukraine.
