Ukrainian govt appoints Dzhigir, Kalmykova, Chernogorenko deputy defense ministers

MOSCOW. Sept 28 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian government has appointed Yury Dzhigir, Natalia Kalmykova and Yekaterina Chernogorenko deputy defense ministers, Ukrainian media said.

Dzhigir has been appointed Ukrainian deputy defense minister for finance. "For the past three years, he has been consulting the World Bank on the financial aspects of healthcare reforms. He served as a Ukrainian deputy finance minister in 2018-2020. He also has over 20 years of economic experience in supporting reforms, social policy and fiscal decentralization in Ukraine, East Balkans and Central Asia. His experience will help achieve zero tolerance for corruption, development of the Ukrainian defense industry, and effective distribution of resources," the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said.

Kalmykova has been appointed Ukrainian deputy defense minister for social development.

Chernogorenko has been appointed Ukrainian deputy defense minister for digital development.

On September 6, the Ukrainian parliament backed Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky's motion for appointing Rustem Umerov, former head of the State Property Fund of Ukraine, Ukrainian defense minister. Before that, the parliament supported the resignation of Ukrainian Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov.
