EEC council extends limit of 1,000 euros for importing goods duty-free into EAEU until April 1, 2024

MOSCOW. Sept 27 (Interfax) - The council of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) on Wednesday during a meeting has taken the decision to extend the limit of 1,000 euros for importing goods duty-free into the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) until April 1, 2024, Russian Deputy Prime Minister and EEC council head Alexei Overchuk told Interfax.

"During a meeting of the EEC council, the decision has been taken to extend the limit of 1,000 euros for importing e-commerce goods duty-free until April 1, 2024," Overchuk reported through a representative.

Russia is among the EAEU member countries that supports maintaining the increased limit on importing goods duty-free. The Economic Development Ministry reported at the end of last week that Russia was ready to support the extension.

The EEC council in March 2022 approved raising the duty-free limit to 1,000 euros from the previous limit of 200 euros for importing goods purchased by individuals online, with the maximum parcel weight remaining at 31 kg. The duty is 15% of the order value, though at least 2 euros per 1 kg, when the weight or cost limits are exceeded.

The EEC later in April raised the duty-free limit to 1,000 euros from 500 euros for individuals to import goods for personal use into Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, and increased the maximum weight to 31 kg from 25 kg. This concerns importing luggage by all means of transport, except by air, or its movement on foot. A duty of 30% of the cost applies, though at least 4 euros per 1 kg, when the cost or weight of the goods exceeds the specified limits.

Both measures had been scheduled to end on October 1, 2023.
