Over 750 vehicles waiting to cross into EU from Belarus

MINSK. Sept 27 (Interfax) - The number of vehicles waiting to cross into the European Union from Belarus has increased to over 750 in the past 24 hours from more than 680 in the previous day, the Belarusian State Border Committee said on Wednesday.

"As of 10 a.m., concentrations of trucks were observed on every route to the European Union. The largest concentration of 150 trucks was seen in front of the Medininkai (Kamenny Log) checkpoint. Its personnel have cleared only 16% of the standard number of trucks over the past day," the committee said.

According to the committee's website, over 480 trucks were waiting to cross into the EU as of 10 a.m. on Wednesday (more than 60 were headed to Latvia, more than 40 to Poland, and over 380 to Lithuania).

As for cars, "the busiest route to the EU goes through the Polish Terespol checkpoint (Brest). There are 75 vehicles there," the committee said. "Personnel at Terespol have cleared 37% of cars over the past day," the committee said.

Over 270 cars are waiting to cross the Belarusian-EU border (more than 190 are headed to Lithuania and more than 80 to Poland).
