Almost 700 vehicles waiting to cross into EU from Belarus

MINSK. Sept 26 (Interfax) - Over 680 vehicles are waiting to cross into the European Union from Belarus, the Belarusian State Border Committee said on Tuesday.

"As of 10 a.m., the longest line of cars was observed near the Polish Terespol border checkpoint (Brest). Checkpoint personnel have cleared 40% of the normal number of vehicles. An insignificant number of vehicles are standing in line at the Lithuanian checkpoints of Lavoriskes (Kotlovka) and Salcininkai (Benyakoni)," the committee said.

According to the committee's website, more than 260 vehicles were waiting to cross into the EU from Belarus at 10 a.m. (over 180 on the Polish border and more than 80 on the Lithuanian border).

"Trucks are waiting to be cleared on every EU border. More than 320 trucks are observed at all Lithuanian border checkpoints, where 46% of the normal number of trucks have been cleared in the past 24 hours. Personnel of the Polish Kukuryki checkpoint (Kozlovichi) and the Latvian Paternieki checkpoint (Grigorovshchina) cleared 40% and 62% of the normal number of trucks, respectively," the committee said.

In all, over 420 trucks are waiting to cross the Belarusian-EU border (over 70 headed to Latvia, more than 30 headed to Poland, and over 320 headed to Lithuania).
