Kazakhstan finds mechanism for cooperating with Russian companies without breaching EU, U.S. recommendations - Industry Ministry

ASTANA. Sept 25 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan complies with the European Union's and United States' recommendations when setting up joint ventures with Russia, the Kazakh Industry and Construction Ministry's Industrial Development Committee Chairman Azamat Panbayev said.

"On sanctions, we are working closely with our Economy Ministry and Trade Ministry, consult the Foreign Ministry, we comply with the EU and U.S. recommendations. Based on that, we build a lawful method of organizing joint production facilities, so as to cause no damage," Panbayev told a briefing at the Innoprom.Kazakhstan international industrial fair in Astana on Monday.

Some of the exhibitors are Russian companies under sanctions, he said. "But it would be wrong, now, to say that we are cooperating with sanctioned companies. We search for, find, and establish the right cooperation mechanism, without violating international laws," Panbayev said.

In July 2023, Kazakh Deputy Foreign Minister Almaz Aidaraov said his country saw no risk of facing sanctions. From the very start, Kazakhstan had actively tracked the imposition of anti-Russian sanctions in order to have a "direct and open dialogue" with its Western partners, he said.
