Baku, Ankara agree on construction of Kars- Nakhchivan railroad, green energy sales from Azerbaijan to Turkey

BAKU. Sept 25 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday visited Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic to sign a letter of intent for the Kars-Nakhchivan railway project.

"The signing of the letter of intent for construction of the Kars-Nakhchivan railroad is a historic event. I am sure this project will develop successfully and as one of the offshoots of the Medium Corridor, it will serve the interests of Azerbaijan, Turkey and other countries," Aliyev said, making a joint statement for the press together with Erdogan.

Two other documents were signed in the presence of the two national leaders.

In particular, the documents included an intergovernmental agreement on construction of residential buildings, an elementary school, a kindergarten and a cultural center in the Turkish province of Kahramanmaras signed by Chairperson of Azerbaijan's Urban Planning and Architecture State Committee Anar Guliyev and Turkish Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Minister Mehmet Ozhaseki.

A memorandum of understanding was also signed by Azerbaijan's Energy Ministry and Turkey's Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources with regard to the sales of electrical power generated from renewable sources from Azerbaijan to Turkey. The document was signed by Turkey's Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar and his Azerbaijani counterpart Perviz Shahbazov.
