Putin, Aliyev discuss priority steps to further stabilize situation in Karabakh - Kremlin

MOSCOW. Sept 21 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev discussed priority measures to further stabilize the situation and to resolve humanitarian problems in the Nagorno-Karabakh region during their phone call, the Kremlin's press service said on Thursday.

"Both sides noted the importance of consistently implementing the agreements on the full cessation of hostilities in Karabakh that were reached with the assistance of the Russian peacekeeping contingent. In this context, great significance is being attached to the negotiations between representatives of Baku and Stepanakert that began under the peacekeepers' mediation," the press service said.

The telephone conversation took place at Azerbaijan's initiative, it said.
