Korean companies want to be involved in implementation of project in Turkmen fuel and energy sector - S. Korean president

ASHGABAT. Sept 21 (Interfax) - Leading South Korean companies want to be actively involved in the implementation and oil and gas and petrochemical projects in Turkmenistan, South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo said in a meeting with Turkmen Parliament Speaker Dunyagozel Gulmanova, according to a report on the Turkmen Foreign Ministry site.

"The sides discussed vital bilateral cooperation issues and exchanged opinions on the prospects of further interaction between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea. While discussing issues relating to further development of trade-economic relations, South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo said leading Korean companies are willing to be actively involved in the implementation of oil and gas and petrochemical projects in Turkmenistan," the report said.

The progressive development of interparliamentary dialogue between the two countries is a priority aspect of interaction, he said.

The Foreign Ministry said a Turkmen delegation, led by Parliament Speaker Gulmanova, paid a working visit to the Republic of Korea on September 17-19 to attend the first meeting of the parliament speakers Central Asia - Republic of Korea.

At the beginning of the meeting with the prime minister of the Republic of Korea, Gulmanova gave words of welcome and best wishes from Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, chairman of Turkmenistan's Khalk Maslakhaty (People's Council).

During the visit, the Turkmen delegation took part in the work of the first Turkmen-Korean interparliamentary consultations initiated by the chairman of the Turkmen People's Council. The meeting participants addressed the special role of interparliamentary dialogue in further development and strengthening of bilateral relations.

Among the promising areas the meeting participants mentioned trade and economics, oil and gas, petrochemicals and transport, cultural and humanitarian dimension, including medicine and education, in particular, the study of the Korean language in Turkmenistan.

Special attention was given to the prospects of Korean companies' participation in the implementation of industrial projects in the city of Arkadag,

During the visit, the Turkmen parliament speaker also had meetings with head of the Korea-Turkmenistan Interparliamentary Friendship Group Lee Dal-Gon and the Republic of Korea's National Assembly Speaker Kim Jin-pyo .

The meetings addressed issues relating to the development of interparliamentary relations and cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea.
