KazMunayGas discusses energy cooperation with US State Department

ASTANA. Sept 20 (Interfax) - JSC National Company KazMunayGas (KMG) CEO Magzum Mirzagaliyev held talks in New York on Tuesday with representatives of the US Department of State, the company said in a press release on Wednesday.

"Mirzagaliyev met with the State Department's Bureau of Energy Resources Assistant Secretary Geoffrey R. Pyatt and the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Assistant Secretary Donald Lu. The sides discussed ways to strengthen energy cooperation between Kazakhstan and the US and measures to respond to climate change," Wednesday's press release says.

Mirzagaliyev said that KMG had committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions 15% by 2031 versus 2019 levels.

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev arrived in New York on September 17. He spoke at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly and took part in the Central Asia-USA summit.

The State Company KazMunayGas JSC is Kazakhstan's national operator for exploration, production, processing and transportation of hydrocarbons. The company represents the state's interests in the country's oil and gas sector.
