MOSCOW. Sept 18 (Interfax) - The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has added Kazan University's astronomical observatories to the World Heritage List, Russian Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova said.
"The astronomical observatories of Kazan Federal University have been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. The [UNESCO's World Heritage] Committee is currently holding its 45th session in Saudi Arabia," Lyubimova said on Telegram.
The observatories made a great contribution to the development of optical astronomy, astrophysics and geodesy thanks to the international team of astronomers who worked at the university, she said.
"Our country is now home to 21 world heritage sites," Lyubimova said.
