Gazprom delivers first LNG via Northern Sea Route

MOSCOW. Sept 15 (Interfax) - The Veliky Novgorod tanker carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG) produced by Gazprom at its Portovaya plant on the Baltic Sea completed offloading its cargo at the Tangshan LNG terminal in China on Friday.

This was the first shipment of Gazprom LNG carried out along the Northern Sea Route, the Russian gas giant said. This route significantly reduces the time it takes to ship LNG to the Asia-Pacific region, the company said.

Gazprom's LNG production, storage and shipping complex near the Portovaya Compressor Station went into operation in September 2022 and has capacity to produce 1.5 million tonnes of LNG per year. The plant produced its millionth tonne in May 2023.
